Year: Park opened on Veteran’s Day of 2013
Owner: The City of Portsmouth
Created from the granite foundation abutments that supported the original Memorial Bridge, this memorial was designed to honor those who have and will risk their lives to serve and protect our country. Bricks surrounding the base of the memorial commemorate loved ones lost in war. The Memorial Bridge was built to honor those who fought and lost their lives in World War I, but Memorial Park comes together to encompass all Veterans who have served and protected our country. Jim and Laurie Teetzel conceived the design for the memorial along with their landscape architect Robbi Woodburn, with input from the Memorial Bridge Public Outreach Committee and the City of Portsmouth.
